Subject: Under the guidance of Deans Binko and Brungardt, a faculty committee is preparing a proposal for the dismantling of the Department of Instructional Technology. While I have met with many regarding this difficult task, I have scrupulously avoided rendering judgments on any portion of drafts of proposals, for I understand that pulling out one brick or adding one board might well topple the whole. However, all principles contain at least one exception: the secretary and the Assistant Instructor positions now housed in the Department of Instructional Technology will move. Since this department will continue to function as a department until the spring semester; since V.P. Mcculloh will soon attempt viva voce to pursuade the Budget Analyst to agree to fund certain much needed positions which we have requested year after year; and since I cannot predict Don's success, I will reassign these two positions sometime in the fall term. Some of you have already requested both slots; all of you are invited to make your needs known. But I warn you: only despair is competitive. PRP/san
