October 23, 1973 Mr. John Wighton Kenneth A. Shaw Reaction to Presentation Made by Maryland Women's Task Force on Education The paper recommends: 1. Women's Studies within existing courses and as separate courses 2. A non-sexist approach to education courses 3. In-service courses and workshops which address themselves to sexism in eduction; All three should be heartily endorsed. Special emphasis should be placed on education course as it is felt that initiation of Women's Studies courses will receive impetus from campus leader, but Teacher Education could well be missed. In-service courses and workshops would be my third " priority. Assuming that we develop courses and also have a highly sensitive and aware education Department, the workshops will follow. I agree with the recommendations made. Each college could suggest a committee or committees to attend to the three areas mentioned. At Towson, Teacher Education would be the one I would want to emphasize at this point. KAS.pw
