Shaw RE: Possible Additional Salary Money As you know there is still some possibility of our receiving an additional increment or one-half increment for next year. While there will be no answer for some time, I feel the need to be prepared should it occur. A major question is how this money, should it come, be utilized. As I see it there are four possible ways to utilize the money and many combinations of the four, they are: 1) Use all or a portion of it to correct inequities; 2) Use all or a portion of it to reward those receiving promotions; 3) Use all or a portion to award for “meritorious” performance; 4) Use all or a portion for across the board increases. Last year when we received additional money each person received an additional increment (thus everyone received this) and about $30,000 was used to correct inequities. None was available to those receiving promotions or to those who deserved recognition for meritorious work. This was consistent with the College P and T Committee recommendation that two increments to each person be the first priority and the next priority be one of adjusting for inequities. I would appreciate your advising me from your perspective as to how this money should be utilized if it is made available. If at all possible, please do so by April 12.
