LeMire and Orrielle Murphy Admission Policy at Jam Sessions It has come to our attention from you and Mrs. Mulgrew that the SGA is concerned about the policy which we instituted at the last two jam sessions in refusing admission at the door to women guests of women students. Our reason is as follows: The purpose of the jam sessions is to provide an informal atmosphere in which students and their dates may have a pleasant evening and students without dates may have an opportunity to meet members of the opposite sex. Our gym capacity of 750 with a college enrollment of 2400 poses a problem. In spite of the fact that permitting non-Towson students to attend would limit some Towson students from coming, still the matter of providing sufficient men from other colleges being admitted on their ID cards seemed justifiable in view of our unequal male-female ration. When Towson women began bringing other women in numbers, upsetting the ration even further, it seemed wise to us to exclude non-towson women. We shall have to agree with the feeling that taking such action was in violation of the established policy as passed in January of '64. In reviewing the matter thoughtfully, we agree with you that we acted in error, that we should have expressed our concern to the Social Committee and taken immediate steps to revise the policy. Our only defense is that we felt we were acting in an emergency and in the best interest of the general student body. May we now ask the Social Committee of the SGA to consider the dilemma we find ourselves in as a college and present their recommendations at the January Student Life Council meeting. OM/kg
