Towson State University College of Liberal Arts Date: March 21, 1991 To: Jim Anthony, Chair, University Curriculum Committee From: Annette Chapp~n, College of Liberal Arts Subject: proposal for conversion of Women's Studies from a concentration in IDIS to a freestanding major Enclosed is a copy of the program proposal for the conversion of WMST from a concentration in IDIS to a free-standing major; I am also sending twenty-two copies to Ellie Hofstetter for distribution to the full University Curriculum Committee. The proposal has been voted on and passed by the WMST Program Committee. I am simultaneously sending ten copies of the proposal to the CLA Curriculum Committee, since it is important to have both committees act in April. MHEC "receives" proposals only twice a year, on December 15 and May 15. In order for us to make the December 15, 1991, deadline, we must clear all the on-campus approvals before the end of the current semester. Since the proposal is only to change the designation from concentration to major, and entails no changes within the program itself, it seems feasible to submit simultaneously to both the college-level and university-level curriculum committees with, of course, the stipulation that UCC's approval is conditional on CLACC's approval. By getting both curriculum committees to approve in April, even if not in sequential order, we can then get on University Senate's agenda for May. I would therefore appreciate UCC's expeditious consideration of the proposal. Jo-Ann Pilardi will be pleased to meet with the committee, if necessary, to discuss the proposal.
