The individuals we authorize you to interview are Haithe Anderson Elyse Eidman-Aadahl June A. Gordon Tania Ramalho Lynda L Sorensen Before scheduling the interviews, you should make at least one telephone reference check on each of these individuals (one of the telephone references must be the chairperson of the department in which the candidate is currently teaching); telephone inquiry should include the referee’s assessment of the candidate’s teaching, scholarship, and service, and whether there is any reason why we should not consider the candidate for the position here. If any of the candidates has indicated in their letter that they want their candidacy "kept confidential," you will need to call them before calling the chairperson, and explain that we have now reached the point where we cannot proceed without a telephone reference. You may notify unacceptable applicants that they are not under further consideration. You may wait to correspond with "standby" applicants until you see whether some of them may be needed to augment the interview pool. As we agreed, you will try to schedule all the interviews in a relatively brief time-frame, and, to minimize air fares, may schedule distance-traveling candidates on a Friday-Sunday time frame. Each candidate must give one classroom presentation, and you will consider having each candidate give two presentations, since such a variety of teaching responsibilities is included in the expectations for this position. Each candidate will be scheduled to meet with me and with Dennis for 45 minutes, accompanied by a member of the search committee, to discuss terms and conditions of employment. Given our schedules, Dennis and I will probably not be able to interview together, though if we can, we are certainly willing to do so. You will schedule whatever other meetings and interviews the committee and both programs need in order to reach a conclusion as to whom to recommend for hiring. You will send me a copy of each interviewee’s CV in advance of the interview with me; I imagine Dennis would also like to have copies of the CV’s. I am satisfied that the committee’s recommendations for interviews are based on the academic backgrounds of the applicants and the needs of the departments. The Provost has agreed to our interviewing four rather than three out-of-state candidates for this position, so the candidate budget for this position is $3,000.
