Memo from Annette Chappell to Beth Vanfossen, 1991

Date: February 19, 1991 To: Beth Vanfossen Towson State University College of Liberal Arts From: Annette Chappell, Dean, College of liberal Arts Subject ITROW mission statement I've looked over the mission statement, and there are a few things I have a little trouble with. 1. p. 1, para. 1: "... earning high national ranking as a campus for women." I think the phrase "campus for women" implies a women-only institution, and would prefer to see something like "campus which values and encourages women" (not necessarily those exact words, but that slant). 2. p. 2, para. 2 of "organization and Governance": "Other positions include the Coordinator of Curriculum Integration, and the Coordinator of Research." No information is given about these positions -- how chosen, terms of office, duties, compensation, etc. -- nor is it clear whether there are additional unmentioned positions hiding behind the verb "include." I think this sentence is out of place in this paragraph anyway. I think it belongs further down, as another number under "Other components of the organizational structure include," and that it has to be much more explicit about these two "positions." 3. p. 2, same para., next sentence: "Additional staff are hired...." I would prefer may be rather than are. 4. p. 2, 2nd para. of description of Executive Committee: "The Director of the Women's Studies Program...." The current title is Coordinator rather than Director. 5. p. 3, item 2: It isn't clear to me what the purpose of the University Liaison Committee is. Why not just make the Executive Committee a little bigger? 6. p. 3 first sentence under "Funding": "The Institute will receive basic support...." I would prefer receives.
