May 5, 1970 SGA Senate meeting minutes

TOWSON STATE COLLEGE STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION SENATE MINUTES MAY 5, 1970 The meeting was called to order by Mr. Walkiewicz at 3:50 in Linthicum 200. The roll was called. 19 senators were present. The minutes were presented and approved. OFFICER'S REPORTS President 1. Mr. Johnson moved that the SGA approve the constitution of the College Governance Committee. The motion was seconded. Mr. Taylow proposed a friendly admendment that the constitution be excepted with reservation. Mr. Johnson did not accept the friendly admendment. Mr. Taylow then moved that an admendment be added to the acceptance of the constitution. "The constitution is accepted with reservations." The motion was seconded and failed. Mr. Griffith proposed a friendly admendment that the constitution be published in official handbook form. Mr. Johnson accepted the admendment. The main motion was then passed. 2. Mr. Johnson then moved to open the meeting to the entire Student Government to consider the Constitutional Amendment. The motion was seconded and passed. 3. Mr. Johnson then moved that the SGA accept the constitutional admendment. The motion was seconded. Mr. Taylor proposed a friendly admendment "An organization registration procedure shall be provided for by the College" TO "An organization and the registration procedure shall be provided in By Law form by the SGA". Mr. Johnson accepted the friendly admendment. The motion failed on a vote of 11-12. 4. Mr. Johnson then moved that the senate return to its regular senate session. The motion was seconded and passed. 5. Mr. Griffith moved that the senate accept the following resolution. "Be it resolved that the SGA Senate declares an official period of mourning for the recent student killings on the Kent State Campus and the killing of American soldiers and civilians in Cambodia. This period will last one week. We urge the President of the College, representing the Administration and the Faculty to join us in this declaration. We also petition both the US Government and the State of maryland to fly all flags at half mast during this period." The motion was seconded. Mr. Johnson then proposed a friendly admendment. "Our grief and mourning will be expressed in the form of a moritorium of classes tomorrow, Wednesday May 6." The friendly admendment was accepted by Mr. Griffith. The motion was passed. 6.
