The MARYLAND STATE NORMAL SCHOOL at TOWSON THE HONOR CODE AND RECOMMENDATIONS TO TEACHERS AND STUDENTS The Code I. Regarding examinations A. An instructor may leave the room during an examination if she wishes. Perhaps the instructor and the class might decide together whether the instructor should stay in the room. B. Students should sit as far apart as possible. C. All books should be placed on the floor. Recommendations: 1. For subject matter tests, instructors should give no definite grades, but merely tell students whether they have passed or failed and place clear comments on their papers about weaknesses and strength. A student teaching letter grade will of course have to be given under existing conditions. 2. Instructors should tell a class whether they expect to give the same examination to other classes. 3. Instructors should collect test papers after the class has been allowed to see them. II. Class-room work A. All class-room work specifically stated by the teacher to be individual must be individual. III. Personal property A. Make personal property in any part of the building as safe as if it were in the owner's hands. IV. School property A. Library 1. Respect others reservations for books 2. Be sure that all books are charged before leaving the library 3. Mutilation of books will not be tolerated. It is a very serious offense. 4. No illustrative material must be taken from an instructor's room or from the library without permission. Recommendations: 1. Either eliminate the library assistant at the gates, or have more assistants at the gates to protect both the students and the library. 2. Use the same system of reserving books in Miss Yoder's room as in Mis Osborn's room. B. School furniture and equipment 1. Respect must be shown for the school furniture and the school equipment; i.e., gymnasium equipment. V. The elementary school A. Elementary school children imitate us. What are our obligations to them? General Recommendations 1. Make it as easy as possible for yourself to be honest. 2.
