NOVEMBER 20. 2005 . AT THE SHERATON NEW YORK HOTEL AND TOWERS In 2005, we reached the milestones of completing the ""Yad Vashem 2001"" Project and unveiling the New Holocaust History Museum and Museum Complex. As we continue to ensure that the lessons of the Holocaust are transmitted to the world, and to prevent history from repeating itself, this year's Dinner will be dedicated to The Aftermath of the Holocaust. We will recognize the Survivors and the lives they rebuilt for themselves and future generations. ""From each survivor, a tree has blossomed"" - is the theme of our 21st Annual Tribute Dinner and Commemorative Journal. This special event will honor two outstanding couples who embody the idea that remembering the Holocaust is not a mere commemorative act, but a sacred legacy. Mindy & Ira Mitzner of Houston, Texas, are in the vanguard of the Second Generation leaders that carry forward the Torch of Remembrance so that future generations will never forget the Holocaust. Marilyn & Barry Rubenstein of Brookville, New York, have made enduring contributions to improving the lives of countless individuals and have supported various organizations and institutions throughout the United States and Israel. To their knowledge, the Rubensteins did not lose any close relatives in the Holocaust, but are champions of the cause of Remembrance. Both families are dedicated supporters of the Yad Vashem mission to perpetuate the legacy of the Holocaust. We are honored to have as our Guest Speaker, Major General Elyezer Shkedy, who is the Commander of the Israeli Air Force, and the son of a Holocaust survivor. Major General Elyezer Shkedy was born in 1957 in Israel. Major General Shkedy graduated Ben-Gurion University with distinction (B.S. in Mathematics and Computer Science). He also holds a M.A. degree (in Systems Management) from the NPS (Naval Postgraduate School) in Monterey, CA, which he finished with distinction. Major General Shkedy joined the Israel Major General Elyezer Shkedy Defense Forces (IDF) in 1975 and volunteered for the flight academy. Two years and survived the Holocaust by jumping off on a variety of airplanes and helicopters. Along the way, he has served in an array of high-level positions and played an important role in many military operations, both as an active participant as well as a planner. During the ""Peace for the Galilee"" operation, Major General Shkedy shot down two enemy aircrafts. From 1998-2000, Major General Shkedy was Commander of Ramat David Air Force Base. In 2000, he was promoted to Brigadier General and assumed the role of Head of the Air Directorate and in February 2002, he was assigned to be the IAF Chief of Staff. On April 4, 2004, he was appointed Commander of the IAF and was promoted to Major General. Major General Shkedy's father, Moshe Shkedy (Mandel) was born in Hungary later, he graduated with honors, as a fighter pilot. During his service in the Israeli Air Force (IAF), Major General Shkedy has accumulated over 3,000 flight hours a train on its way to Auschwitz. His entire family perished. Major General Elyezer Shkedy is married to Dr. Anat Shkedy. They have a daughter and two sons.
