Towson State University MEMORANDUM Date March 7, 1983 To: All Faculty, Staff, and Students From: Sara Coulter, Women's Studies Subject: Lecture by Lois Banner, consultant on women in American history, March 11, 10 a.m., Cook Library, 4th floor Lois Banner, Visiting Associate Professor of History from George Washington University, will be on campus Friday, March 11, to serve as a consultant on mainstreaming the new scholarship on women into American history survey courses. Professor 3anner will consult with the Mainstreaming Workshop in American History currently reviewin~ research on women. While on camnus, Professor Banner has been invited to lecture in two American history classes and to nresent a brief, informal review of women in American history at a session open to all faculty, staff, and students at 10 a.m. in Cook Library, 4th floor. We would appreciate your bringing this onnortunity to the attention of colleagues and students. Lois Banner is survey director and author of the re-port, "Women in the College Curriculum," ':Princeton University, 1976-77, funded by the Ford Foundation. This was the first major work on women in the college curriculum done in the United States. During the summer of 1980, Professor Banner co-planned and taught an NEH summer institute at Princeton University on integrating the history of women into U.S. history survey courses. She has done extensive work throughout the history profession on integration of non-traditional materials into history conferences, texts, scholarship, and teaching. Professor Banner is co-editor of Clio's Consciousness Raiseda New Persnectives .Q.!! the History of Women (New York, 1974) and author of Women in Modern Americas! Brief History (New York, 1974). She is currently consultant in residence to the History Department, Hamilton College, Clinton, New York.
