Sunday Edition sga NEWS RELEASE March 12, 1979 For Immediate Release - ART BUCHWALD TO GIVE TOWSON STATE PERFORMANCE Despite many years as a columnist who satirizes daily Washington events, Art Buchwald remains a mystery to many of his fellow journalists. On Friday, March 30th, Mr. Buchwald will be present at the Towson Center to voice his views and opinions. He will be appearing as the sixt speaker in the Student Givernment Association's Speaker Series. The Series, in its fourth year, has gained national and state recognition for its diverse presentation of acclaimed speakers. As a student, Buchwald submitted a column to the Paris editors of The New York Herald Tribune entitled "Paris After Dark." It dealt with offbeat reports on Paris nightlife and personalities. They liked it and his career has been steadily climbing since. Today he is based in Washington and devotes his work to presenting different, often obscure commentary on the capitol scene. He has been hailed as one of the leading satirists in America today. Aside from his syndicated column, Buchwald is also the author of several humorous books. Among them "Washington is Leading" (1978) and "Down the Seine and Up the Potomac" (1977). Buchwald will present his commentaries at 8 pm on the Towson Center stage. Opening remarks will be made by Michael Olesker, columnist for the Morning Sun and daily commentator on WCAO. General admission is $5.00, with free admission for Towson students and faculty/staff.
