TO: Women's Studies Committee FROM: Sara Coulter SUBJECT: KEH Project Grant Proposal IMMEDIATE ATTENTION attached is the main part of our grant proposal. It will be preceded and followed by embellishments of various kinds exj)6^1ning the merits and benefits of women’s studies and how our courses complement the long range planning of the College, etc. But the essence of our request is money for: 1) a core curriculum of three courses, one Introductory lower division and two interdisciplinary upper division, around which to organize our departmental offerings; 2) six summer stipends of $2000 each for two months for the development of departmental courses; 3) miscellaneous supporting personnel and equipment. Questions I need to have answered as soon as possible: 1) Do you like this kind of reorganization of our proposal? It was dictated by what we 3eemed to need and by what we take to be HEH* s preferences. 2) Do you like the specific courses as described? The Interdisciplinary courses are "problem centered" because this seems to be one way to truly Integrate disciplines. 3) If you like the courses as described, which faculty members should be involved in teaching them? The Possibilities so far seem to be: "Woman In Perspective" (2 faculty) Rivers, Buchs, Hedges, Sheets, Coulter, Flower "Women In Art and Literature" (3 faculty) Miller, Fuchs, Guillame, Sheets, Coulter (for lit. Sheets would parallel better with Eur. art that Br. or Am. Lit. people) "Women In Society" (3 faculty) Rivers, Fuchs, Toland, Reynolds?, Raskin?, V/alen?, Kumar I need specific faculty and course descriptions to take to Wash, the first week in October.
