David Bimestefer Bobby Boyd Joan Briskin As most of you know and have read, President Fisher appointed a task force to review the possibility of the University increasing its emphasis on athletics. That task force unanimously recommended such a move to him and subsequently, the University's Academic Council endorsed it. Gordon Combs John DeNolfi Dr. Irvin I. Donick Steve Feldman William L. James Lekas We submitted our application to the NCAA for an immediate elevation to Division I in all sports (Division IAA in football) from our present classification of Division II (Division III in football). Because of the lack of time in which we had to upgrade our schedule, the NCAA classification committee deferred our application for this year and suggested we resubmit it next year after we have ha4 time to improve our scheduling. This we are now in the process of doing and you will be hearing within the next few months names of some of the new opponents that will be added to the University's sports schedules in the years to come. Price Peter Schlehr Our football program will move to Division II for three years, after which it will be eligible to move up to Division IAA. This step by step elevation in football was recommended by NCAA officials. The balance of our sports, however, will be moved up as soon as the schedules are finalized and this should take place for the 1980 season. Your Board of Directors will be meeting within the next several weeks regarding the Tiger Club's expanded role in raising funds for our athletic program. We will indeed have a challenge ahead as we move against far superior competition. If you have any questions concerning our plans, don't hesitate to write or call me.
