ASSISTANT DEPUTY MAJORITY WHIP I write to express my frustration, disappointment, and utter disbelief upon learning of the Maryland Chamber of Commerce’s decision to take "no-position" on Governor Parris Glendening’s efforts to impose a project labor agreement (PLA), or equivalent, on the Woodrow Wilson Replacement Bridge project. What is most amazing to me is that while the liberal Baltimore Sun publishes several editorials and news articles criticizing the Governor for his overt payback to labor groups, the Maryland Chamber of Commerce sits idly by. When my colleagues from around the country ask me about Maryland’s anti-business climate, one factor I usually point to is the 5 statewide elected officials who revel in pushing an anti-business agenda. I will now add another factor to the mix: a suspect Chamber of Commerce. Your lack of support makes it more difficult for pro-business legislators, such as myself, to change the direction of this state.
