In the course of the intensive work of the Majors Assessment Resource Subcommittee at the end of last semester, I inadvertently misfiled your plan, with the result that it was not included in the evaluations which Greg Scott of the Assessment Office undertook during the summer. Consequently, some of the overviews of departmental assessment on campus may currently list Women's Studies as not having submitted a plan. I hope by way of this letter to clear up any misunderstanding and to take full responsibility for the oversight. I have since forwarded copies of the plan to Dr. Scott. The Women's Studies Program has clearly given serious thought to the philosophy, . purposes, and expected outcomes of the major. The assessment techniques which you describe seem to be appropriate to your program, and I am anxious to find out more about how you intend .to proceed. The process you describe is somewhat like the portfolio assessment being undertaken by several departments. In fact, one of your faculty, Jo-Ann Pilardi, developed the portfolio assessment plan for the Department of Philosophy and Religion. Separately, Dr. Scott has suggested meetings with departmental assessment coordinators before pilot assessment projects are undertaken.
