Schick Executive Director Board of Trustees of the State Universities and Colleges 16 Francis Street Annapolis, MD 21401 Dear Edgar: I am enclosing two copies of a grant proposal submitted by Towson State University to the U.S. Department of Education, Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE) - Comprehensive Program for a project entitled, "Integrating the Scholarship on Women into the Curriculum of Selected Community Colleges in the Baltimore -Washington Area." Dr. Sara Coulter and Dr. Elaine Hedges, both Professors in the Department of English are co-project directors for this project. The purpose of the project is to integrate the scholarship on women into selected courses in five community colleges in the Baltimore -Washington area, using the resources developed in the Towson State University FIPSE integration project. Thirty- three faculty from five campuses will meet in workshops divided according to curriculum area: Humanities, Social Sciences, Fine Arts and Sciences. Over three semesters, faculty will read and analyze the scholarship on women in their discipline, including minority women, revise courses, and test and evaluate the new courses in the classroom. Towson State University is requesting $235,963 from FIPSE over the two-year project period. The university will account for $133,326, mostly through faculty release time and waiving the difference between the FIPSE-allowed indirect cost rate and the university indirect cost rate. The participating community colleges will account for 205,964 through faculty release time. The total project cost is $575,253. The state will not assume additional financial responsibilities under the grant. No new positions will be added.
