[handwritten: file organiz., student/SGA/events] March 10, 1981 Mr. Robert North [address redacted] Dear Bob: The following steps can be taken by the Towson State University Department of University Relations to assist the two co-sponsors of the Lennon tribute in the promotion of that event: 1. University Relations will prepare for you a written plan to coordinate all the initiatives on publicity, promotion, advertising, etc. 2. In following or implementing this plan, University Relations will be able to design and place any paid advertisements which we may mutually deem appropriate to promote the sale of tickets. Such paid advertisements may take the form of print ads or radio commercials and will oblige us (if we see fit to use them) to spend dollars for guaranteed spots. 3. University Relations will also handle the less costly publicity campaign. This will involve media releases to appropriate newspapers, magazines, calendars pf events, etc., to announce the show and provide information about tickets. Publicity also includes our preparation of radio and television "public service" spots (which differ from commercials in that there is no price tag fixed to a PSA). Publicity also includes our arranging for outdoor publicity on the TSU campus, specifically, outdoor marquees which will carry information about the concert. Several marquees are located on major roadways surrounding Towson State, and these will be available to us. Publicity will also utilize yourselves, the president of our SGA, or other persons in terms of interviews in advance of the concert to promote the sale of tickets and to explain for what purpose proceeds will be used. 4. University Relations will work with the co-sponsors in the development of promotions. Promotions most commonly will entail our working arrangements out with local radio stations to "hype" the event on the air. Promotions in this sense may involve our providing complimentary tickets to be given away on the air by disc jockeys, may involve disc jockets being present to introduce the performing groups, etc. Promotions may also onvolve record giveaways, contests, or other attention getting devices. 5. University Relations will also work with the two co-sponsors in the development of printed materials -- and here I am thinking of posters or flyers about the event.
