MD 21252-0001 t. 410 830-2334 f. 410 830-3469 www.towson.edu/itrow itrow@towson.edu Dr. Tom Basuray Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs Towson University Dear Tom: As we discussed in our telephone conversation yesterday, 1 am attaching copies of (1) our original presentation to Provost Haeger in the Spring of 1998, with the budget sheets on top; (2) a copy of a 2/24/99 memo from Ed Fields to Bonnie Lingelbach authorizing the transfer of the 1 998- 1 999 support from the Provost’s office to the National Center for Curriculum Transformation Resources on Women (NCCTRW); and (3) copies of the memos among you, Sara Coulter, and Dan Jones over a three-month period trying to nail down the NCCTRW budget. The presentation documents also include information on the relationship of NCCTRW and ITROW, and of both of these to the rest of the University, a topic which you and I briefly discussed yesterday on the phone. I am unable to find any written confirmation of Haeger’s agreement to the $25,000 operating budget figure. That is because he sent us no emails or letters about it. However, I have checked with the other people who were present at that meeting (Sara Coulter, Dan Jones, Jo-Ann Pilardi, and myself), asking them what they recall. They all recall that Provost Haeger said, yes, he would supply a $25, 000/year operating budget for the NCCTRW. They distinctly recall that his response was not “well, I will think about it.” His response was so positive that we proceeded with the hiring process to find a new Director of NCCTRW. We had a very good pool of candidates, and Dr. Karen Dugger was the top of the list. She was happy at Bucknell, and they were very happy with her (they have given her a year to decide if she wants to return there). She was very attracted to this position because of its potentials for future development. She recognized that it is a relatively unique structure, and she was excited about developing it even more. As part of that recruitment effort, we indicated that the NCCTRW has an operating budget of $25,000 per year, but the Director is expected to secure additional grant
