Washington, DC.; Lambda Book Report begins
accepting nominations for the Sixth Annual
Lambda Literary Awards on December 1, 1993.
The Lammys, recognizing excellence in gay and
lesbian writing and publishing, will be present¬
ed during a gala banquet in Los An-geles,
California, on Friday, May 27, 1994, during the
American Booksellers Association Convention.
Designed to recognize excel¬
lence in gay and lesbian book
publishing, the Lammys have
witnessed an unprecedented
and still-expanding boom,
with previous Lammy win¬
ning authors such as Dorothy
Allison and Paul Monette
gaining national recognition.
This year, the Pulitzer Prize in
drama was won by a gay
AIDS play, Angels'in Am¬
erica. Following the March on
Washington for Gay, Lesbian
and Bisexual Rights this
spring, a host of gay and les¬
bian authors received book
advances in the six figures,
and many major publishing
houses— among them Simon
and Schuster, Bantam, Knopf,
and HarperCollins— have
joined pioneers St. Mar-tin's
Press and Dutton in publish¬
ing gay and lesbian fiction
and non-fiction. At the same
time, gay and lesbian small
presses are thriving, with
almost a dozen lesbian/ femi¬
nist presses represented in
last year's list of finalists. And
1994 will see a major young-
adult publisher beginning a
series of gay and lesbian
biographies and books cover¬
ing issues aimed at teens.
Deacon Maccubbin, publish¬
er of The Lambda Book Report,
which sponsors the Awards,
said "we are delighted to once
again honor the many out¬
standing achievements of the
gay and lesbian literary com¬
munity. At a time when cen¬
sors around the country are
trying to remove lesbian and
writing— children's
oks, novels, even communi¬
ty newspapers — from the
shelves of libraries, it is
important that the entire
industry continues to affirm
the depth and significance of
our authors."
The public is invited to
nominate their favorite gay
and lesbian books of 1993 in
16 categories: Lesbian Fiction,
Gay Men's Fiction, Lesbian
Studies, Gay Men's Studies,
Lesbian & Gay Anthologies,
Lesbian Biography

BOOK REPORT
Don’t Get Caught In The Holiday Rush!
The winter season is the
time when schedules get
busy, parties pile up one
after another, and we
spend too much time fight¬
ing mobs in shopping
malls, trying to find just
the right gift for our
friends and loved ones.
We're here to make your
life a bit easier by putting
the resources of the Lamb¬
da Rising bookstores at
your disposal. This catalog
features the latest new
releases in the gay and les¬
bian publishing industry,
as well as a carefully-
selected assortment of gift
items, music and videos.
We hope that within the
pages of our catalog, you'll
find something for almost
everyone on your holiday
shopping list. But remem¬
ber to pick out something
for yourself, as well!
As the number of books
targeted at young readers
increases, our customers
keep asking for still more
children's titles, both for
gifts for the youth in their
lives as well as donations
to local schools and
libraries. If there's a lesbian
and gay-themed children's
book you'd like that isn't
listed in this catalog, please
call our toll-free number.
We stock virtually every
gay and lesbian book in
print, and we will be
happy to check our inven¬
tory to see if we stock the
titles you need.
