SGA Senate Meeting January 5, 1965 The meeting was called to order by President Kenneth Masters in Stephens Hall, Room 219, at 3:30 p.m. Roll was taken. The minutes were approved as written. ANNOUNCEMENTS 1. Kathi Austin reported that the financial committee had allocated $10 to the Naturalists and $9.80 to the College Centre Board. 2. Brad Johnson announced that there will be a NSA Regional Conference on February [stricken out: 13] 27, 1965. The conference will be concerned with the Alliance for Progress. Anyone interested in the conference should contact him. 3. Paul Vanderbosch announced that Student Life Council had formed a subcommittee to discuss dress policy on campus. We would like to have student opinion on dress policy. 4. Sue Lombardo announced that activity card pictures will be taken on January 8, 11, and 12 for new students and anyone who has lost his activity card. Sue needs volunteers to take the pictures. Please sign the list on the SGA door. 5. Kenneth Masters read a statement from President Hawkins regarding the resolution passed by the SGA Senate on September 19, 1965. In this letter President Hawkins gave his view of the resolution and an explanation of the points involved. 6. Kenneth Masters read a [stricken out: letter] memo from Dean Murphy explaining her action at jam sessions when outside women were not allowed to attend. NEW BUSINESS 1. Sharom Mulgrew moved that the senate support the present social policy on jam sessions. Mary Joy Kreller moved that the senate dissolve itself into the Committee of the Whole to discuss the social policy. The motion was seconded and passed. Richard Moss moved that the committee rise and report. The motion was adopted. Michael Gordon reported that teh Committee of the Whole had discussed the matter and had taken no vote. The main motion, to support the present social policy, was passed. 2. Michael Gordon moved that alternates appointed to attend a senate meeting must have a written designation from the club senator or president and present it to the secretary before the senate meeting. The motion was seconded nad passed. 3. Mary Joy Kreller moved that the senate remove from the table the question of the foreign student. The motion was seconded and passed. Miss Kreller moved that the senate allocate $156 to pay for a second foreign student on campus. This was less than the original motion of $244. The motion was seconded. Mr. Moss moved to amend the motion by adding that the SGA Treasurer write a letter to the administration thanking them for help with the foreign student but reminding them that the SGA is not responsible for any debts incurred by the administration. The motion was seconded and defeated. The main motion was passed. 4. Jan Roy moved that the senate allocate @21.60 to the Cheerleaders for new letters. The motion was seconded and passed. 5. Kathi Austin moved to amend the financial policy by adding under Budget Hearings #21: The finance committee shall have the power of reallocation of funds appropriated in the previous budget period. The motion was seconded and passed.
