- Photograph of groundbreaking for Student (College) Union. Person holding the shovel is Earle T. Hawkins. Dr. Earle T. Hawkins served as president of the college from 1947 until 1969. Dr. Hawkins instituted summer and evening class programs and added more concentrations to the arts and sciences departments to meet the demands of the college's growth. The Student Union became called as the University Union. Constructed in 1972, the Union is home to many campus services such as the post office, a bank and ATMs, and a ticket office, as well as dining areas, and offices for student activities. It also holds large conference and meeting rooms.
