- Description
- Photograph of female students leaving Richmond Hall, thought to be taken about 1947, a dormitory named after Sarah Richmond, Class of 1866 and first female principal of the Maryland State Normal School. From 1868, Richmond taught Mathematics at the school. She became Principal in 1909, overseeing the relocation of the school from the Carrollton and Lafayette address to the Towson campus. In 1916, she resigned as Principal and became Dean of the school, a position she held until her death in 1921. Richmond Hall, the second dormitory on campus, was constructed in 1923 as a women's dormitory but is now coeducational.
