February 22, 1968 Executive Committee meeting minutes

TOWSON STATE COLLEGE STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MINUTES - FEBRUARY 22, 1968 The meeting was called to order at 3:50 by President Cullison. The meeting began with officer reports. Mr. Herbert reported that Freshman Elections will be next Monday and Tuesday with run-offs on Thursday and Friday. Corresponding Secretary, Recording Secretary and Social Chairman are the only offices that are contested. There are no candidates for CCB. The Chair was relinquished to Mr. Herbert. Mr. Herbert continued to say that the tentative date for the presidential preferential vote is April 24. There will be participation of the students body in the Mid-Atlantic States Evaluation next year. Mr. Barkley continued his quarterly report which he did not complete in Senate Tuesday. There will be meetings of the financial committee at 3:15 on Monday before each Senate meeting. Mr. Barkley announced that the NSA resolution prohibits allocation of money to WUS Week. Mr. Barkley suggested student loans be taken by members of the executive committee to finance WUS Week. Miss Miskelly stated that the resolution should be expunged from the record. A jam session sponsored by SGA during WUS Week was sug- gested. Mr. Barkley announced that according to a machine, we have $32,000. This money is being held in reserve. Special Events has returned $5,000 which alleviated our over- allocation except for $32.29. Mr. Barkley suggested buying a covering for the gym floor as well as chairs and tables to be used at social events. Miss Berlett announced that special events committee met for the first time to dis- cuss 1968-69. Student government will be considered as a department of the college and will be allowed to make suggestions for events. Suggestions should be made within two weeks as by April the committee wants all contracts signed. Some suggested names were Dr. Richard Farson, Director of the Western Behavioral Science Institute, Dr. Murray Banks, Rhavi Shankhar, Dr. Timothy Leary, Pat Paulsen, Marvin Kalb, Bill Monroe of NBC News in Washington. The committeee will further consider this topic and will also con- sult Miss Sweed. At this time Dean Falco joined the meeting to ask the committee's opinion on the change in the academic calendar for next year. Dean Falco referred specifically to the period of classes after Christmas vacation which is very short and somewhat of a waste. He suggested that classes end before Christmas and finals begin right after Christmas vacation. Finals before Christmas are impossible this year because of the length of the summer sessions. A tentative calendar was distributed to the committee. The committee was in favor of the suggested calendar revision with the assumption that eventually the semester would end before Christmas. The committee was in favor of a Sunday commencement and a "mini" semester between halves for experimental college or seminar type courses. Mr. Cullison announced that Mr. Hollywood will make posters for the mid-Atlantic States evaluation. Students will be requested to sign up for committees. Mr. Cullison requested that the Freshman Class officers meet with the Exec. Committee to discuss any problems they might have. Miss Rohde announced that she is in the process of planning a follow-up leadership conference for one day in the spring. Mr. Cullison announced that Mr. Waks is checking into any damage done to the new gym to see if we are liable. Mr. Cullison announced that at next week's exec. committee meeting, we are going to consider college policy on student demonstrations and Miss Sweed's new policy for requisitioning. Mr. Herbert announced that at the meeting for college planning it was decided that students will be sent forms to fill out. Mr.
