February 16, 1965 SGA Senate meeting minutes

SGA SENATE MEETING February 16, 1965 The meeting was called to order by President Kenneth Masters in Stephens Hall, Room 219, at 3:35 p.m. Roll was taken. The minutes were approved as corrected. The treasurer reported a balance of $38,802.41 ANNOUNCEMENTS 1. ICC - Sue Lombardo announced that ICC is sponsoring a Jazz Concert at Polytechnic Auditorium on March 7, 1965. 2. Civil Rights Conference - Sue Lombardo announced that Morgan State College is sponsoring a Civil Rights Conference at the end of April. Anyone interested should contact Connie Dalberg, Box 32N. 3. Foreign Student Committee - Mary Joy Kreller announced that there are only two people on the Foreign Student Committee. She would like volunteers to serve on the committee. Contact her at Box 509. 4. NSA - Brad Johnson announced that WUS week will be held February 22 through 27. he also announced that Towson will not be represented at the Alliance for Progress Conference. 5. Kathi Austin announced that the Financial Committee had reallocated $95 {stricken out: 90] to FAC. 6. ICC - Tom McCubbin announced that the ICC will sponsor a College Bowl in March. Volunteers are needed to serve on the team and to make questions for the College Bowl. Towson's areas for the questions are: Geography, Economics, and the Greek-Roman Classics. The questions must be submitted by February 28. 7. Mary Joy Kreller announced that she will chair a Book List Committee to compare prices on books that can be purchases in nearby stores with the prices in the Book Store. Those interested in the committee should contact her at Box 509. NEW BUSINESS 1. Keith Harmeyer moved that the senate allocate $30,000 to the Special Events Committee. The motion was seconded. Michael Gordon moved to amend the motion to read that the senate raise the activity fee to $35 for one year in order to give $30,000 to the Centennial Committee. The motion was seconded. The floor was yielded to Mr. Donald Embinder who explained the work of the Centennial Committee and how the $30,000 would be used. The [stricken out: motion] AMENDMENT BY SUBSTITUTION was passed unanimously. 2. Kathi Austin moved that the senate accept the revised financial policy. The motion was seconded. Bob Friedenberg moved to ament the motion under Budget hearings, 2., to read: The twelve members of the S.G.A. financial Committee consist of thte S.G.A. Treasurer, the two assistant S.G.A. Treasurers appointed by the S.G.A. Treasurer, the sophomore, junior, and senior class treasurers, and two members from each of the three upper classes elected yearly from the SGA Senate. The motion was seconded and passed. The main motion was passed. 3. Bob Sweat moved that the senate allocate $12.oo to Circle K for a perpetual plaque. The motion was seconded and defeated.
