Budget, released time, etc. On the budget: It appears that the budget is the same as the budget for ITROW for last year. That is good, and I am delighted. On the secre¬ tarial matter: I agree that graduate assistantships are good (the only disadvantage is that there needs to be coordination when two people are doing the job, and that sometimes falls to me, so that my time is taken updating each person as to what happened the day before). Martha has a part-time teaching job for next fall, and would be available to work for ITROW part-time. That seems to me a very attractive possibility, since she is able to get done in 20 hours what two other graduate assistants might get done in 30. Have you had any more thoughts about it? WHen does this budget period start (i.e., when could I hire someone)? The budget category 3700 is again $5215. Last year, this included money for a computer. It would be terrific if I could buy a computer for the secretary. In the past year, Lewis (my husband) loaned me his portable computer for Martha and Elena to use. It got great usage, particularly for database work both for my grant proposals and for the curriculum integration library. Lewis is glad to have his computer back now, so I am looking for a way to provide for secretarial computer use without taking his again. I also am pleased the Provost approved of using Gordon’s grant money to buy off my Fall 91 teaching. That will help a lot in giving me time to work on ITROW business.
