Remember that the allocation has to cover salary AND the fringe benefits (contractuals get only FICA and unempl. ins.) -- fringes work out at 8%, so you have to include that in your calculations. You will need to work with Personnel if you decide to hire contractual, or with the graduate school if you decide to hire grad. assistants. If you hire Martha, you won't be able to pay her what I've been paying these two weeks -- I've been paying her on a Secretary III scale, whereas you will probably only pay Sec. II. The choice between contractual and grad. assts. is up to you, based on your needs and your assessment of how that amount can be most effective for the Institute. Just keep me informed. P.S.
