He especially encouraged us to see if we could work this out with Education. We are trying to get an appt. with Binko, but it looks like March 30 is the earliest. We need to convince the other department to place this position as top priority in their hiring. Elaine will receive a set, so she will know the deadlines which all depts/programs will be working with. Obviously, you needto work something out in time for both "Dept. X" and WMST to include it in their Staffing Plans as top priority. Advice: You need to convince a dept. of the advantage to THEM of a joint appointment. I see no reason why they should share one of their full-time positions with us. I had assumed that we were offering them a half time position they would not otherwise receive--that somehow we had a position taken off the top before they were distributed to departments; that is, that WMST had been given this opportunity by Caret, not that we were invading departmental resources, and that the difficulty was convincing the department to make it a top priority. Education was a good candidate for this because they had come out badly in the report on minority faculty done by NCATE. Please clarify the terms of this position for us before we meet with deans and chairs so that we will know what we are offering and trying to get.
