EHRLICH ON WASHINGTON By Congressman Robert L. Ehrlich, Jr. Week of May 14, 1995 OUT & ABOUT IN THE DISTRICT During my first hundred days in Congress, the Republican Contract with America kept me in Washington on a full-time basis. As a result, I was left with a limited amount of time to journey around the Second District, attending events and meeting constituents. Well, the Contract has been fulfilled and the second hundred days of Congress have, to date, been no less hectic than the first. Still, I have been able to get out in the community and meet more of the people that make the Second Congressional District unique. Let me tell you about just a few of the places I have visited in recent days. A while back I received a letter from a Dulaney High School senior named Karen Pevenstein inviting me to speak to her Constitution, Citizenship, and Public Issues class. I took Karen up on her offer, and was impressed by the depth of the students’ knowledge and their understanding of public affairs. Their teacher, Donna Fritz, deserves much of the credit for their achievements to date. Additional credit goes to Dulaney High School itself, which is the only high school in Baltimore County to receive the 1995 Maryland Blue Ribbon School of Excellence Award. Dulaney received the honor based on its high test scores, innovative programs, community involvement, student achievement, and personal improvement efforts. I salute Principal Thomas R. Hensley and— most importantly— the student body of Dulaney for achieving this plateau of success.
