- Description
- Photograph of Doc Minnegan at a rally. Minnegan, hired as a part-time physical education teacher for the men on campus in 1927 soon established a number of teams beginning with soccer in 1929 when he became a full-time faculty member. He began baseball, gymnastics, track, wrestling, football, and lacrosse teams, and led Towson into participation in intercollegiate sports. He retired in 1972 after establishing the Towson Athletic Hall of Fame, and becoming it's first member. He is also listed in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Hall of Fame in Oneonta NY. In 1983, Towson dedicated its stadium, Minnegan Stadium, to him. When the stadium was re-built and re-named Johnny Unitas Stadium in 2002, a viewing room and field were named in Minnegan's honor. Minnegan died in 2002. A year later, the Towson Tiger Mascot was renamed "Doc" in his memory.
