December 12, 1967 SGA Executive Committee meeting minutes

TOWSON STATE COLLEGE STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE December 12, 1967 The meeting was called to order by President Cullison at 3:30 p.m. in the SGA office. Mr. Binko and Mr. Wacks were present as well as the committee. 1. Mr. Barkley clarified the fact that stricken organizations will have to ask Financial Committee for additional funds after they are stricken. 2. Mr. Barkley announced that Dr. Cortelyou has noticed the apathy on campus and has approached Mr. Barkley with the idea of an opinion poll to be taken periodically. A committee will be formed to look into this. 3. Mr. Cullinson announced that he and Mr. Herbert wil be meeting with Mr. Schelle tonight. 4. The idea of an alternate chair for Senate was also brought up. Since Miss Miskelly will be here all next semester, Mr. Cullison asked if this were needed. Miss Miskelly suggested calling for suspension of rules in Senate. 5. Mr. Cullison announced that SGA has sponsored the right of groups of students to have peaceful demonstrations on campus. Mr. Cullison stressed the fact that SGA is not sponsoring the idea or content of the demonstration but the right to demonstrate. These organizations needed sponsorship in order to demonstrate. This situation has only arisen twice. Mr. Binko suggested that when a group of students needs sponsorship, the approval be given by the entire Executive Committee, rather than one individual. Miss Miskelly said that she felt SGA should not be responsible for any organization holding demonstrations on campus. Mr. Cullison suggested finding another sponsoring organization for the stu- dents. Mr. Cullison suggested that we bring this before the next Executive Committee meeting to decide if we want to arrange to submit these requests to the Executive Committee which would in turn either sponsor it or find a sponsor. In some instances a special Executive Committee meeting may be required. The chair was relinquished to Miss Miskelly. 6. Mr. Barkley announced that Financial Committee has proposed Charging students a nominal fee for activities. 7. Mr. Herbert read a copy of a letter written to Mr. Schelle from he and Mr. Cullison. Mr. Herbert announced that he and Mr. Cullison are writing reports on their convention and on the role of student government to be published in the Tower Light. Residence Committee reports will also be published. Fraternities and sororities will also be brought before the Board of Trustees again.
