Women's Studies lowson State University TOWSON, MARYLAND 21204 Telephone (30 I) 321 -2860 CENTER FOR THE STUDY OF WOMEN AND EDUCATION PROSPECTUS Rationale: The Women's Studies program at Towson State University has achieved a national reputation in women's programming and curriculum integration of the scholarahip on women. Receiving two large FIPSE grants, hosting NWSA '89, publishing a newsletter (ON OUR MINDS), earning high national ranking as a campus £or women, and numerous other accomplishments (see attached list) provide ample evidence of our leadership. To continue this momentum on our own campus and to respond to regional and national needs in the areas of our expertise, we propose that a Center for the Study of Women and Education be established at Towson. Personnel: Director: 12-month administrative appointment with the option to teach one class (salary, up to S44,000). Duties: coordination of all of the activities of the Center; fund raising; development of external and internal advisory committees; development of proJects that are appropriate to the interests and expertise of TSU faculty/staff; publicity and networking, regionally and nationally. Facilities: private office with computer. Secretary: full time, state position, level II or above. Facilities: office, computer with modem. Internal Executive Committee: representatives from Women's Studies and other appropriate areas such as Institutional Research; establish policy, evaluate progress, advise director. External Advisory Committee: representatives of the community concerned with women's issues, including local, state, and fed. govt., education, business, community activists, etc. Research Associates or ProJect Directors: individuals directing activities of the Center supported by external or internal grants or assigned time appropriate to the situation. Faculty Consultants: faculty who consult on contracts written by the Center with % of fee for overhead (currently such contracts are written through Continuing Studies with 20%
