- Description
- Undated photograph of the elementary school children at play behind the Campus Elementary School building, now known as Van Bokkelen Hall. Towson University was originally a teacher's training school, and during this time maintained an elementary school on campus that was staffed by professional teachers. Student teachers could both observe techniques as well as get some practical teaching experience in this environment. This school was originally housed in the Administration Building, now known as Stephens Hall. The Campus Elementary School building was constructed in 1932, and was named the Lida Lee Tall School in 1942. In 1960 the Lida Lee Tall Learning Resources Centers building was constructed, and this building was then re-named Van Bokkelen Hall in honor of Dr. Libertus Van Bokkelen, the State Superintendent of Public Instruction from 1865 to 1868. It now houses the Speech, Language and Hearing Clinic and departments of Communication Sciences and Disorders, and Mass Communication and Communication Studies.
