- Description
- Photograph of a diplay case containing a single rose. The rose, originally pink in color, was one of a bouquet presented by the Senate members to Mary Risteau, the first woman Senator in the Maryland General Assembly. It was given to her on the last night of the Legislative Session on April 1, 1935, when the bill which changed the name of the State Normal Schools to Teachers Colleges was passed. Mrs. Albert S. Cook brought the rose to Dr. Lida Lee Tall, who decided to have it gilded. Carl Schon, a jeweler on Saratoga Street, turned the pink rose into a permanent one of silver and gold.
