April 4, 1968 Executive Committee meeting minutes

TOWSON STATE COLLEGE STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE April 4, 1968 The meeting was called to order at 4:30 p.m. in the SGA office by President Cullison. Mr. Haupt was present at the meeting in addition to the Exec. Committee. Mr. Haupt announced that an open forum was held from 1:30 to 3:15 p.m. today. The petition to the Secretary of State of Maryland was circulated at the meeting. Plans are being made to see President Hawkins tomorrow if possible. Over vaca- tion the committee is planning to see Senator Bishop, members of the Board of Trustees, and Mr. Cole. The Faculty Association feels that students should go ahead by themselves. The committee is ignoring Dean Falco's newspaper quote. The committee realizes that we cannot get the money this year but they would like a statement from the Governor saying that faculty salaries will be raised next year. At present the committee is working solely for faculty salries. At today's open forum more open forums were promised in the future. Members of the SGA exec Committee should be available to answer questions at these forums. OFFICER REPORTS: 1. Mr. Herbert reported that the voting machines were not manned today. Mr. Herbert is writing questions for a dormitory questionnaire. 2. Mr. Barkley announced that we still have sufficient funds. 3. Miss Berlett requested a Financial Committee meeting before Senate so that a floor covering for the gym can be purchased for $200. A permanent floor covering will cost $4,000 and if the SGA purchases it, it would be to its ad- vantage especially in avoiding maintenance costs. 4. Miss Rohde said there have been two refusals for foreign exchange students. Two girls from Sweden are coming and perhaps one boy. A present TSC student from Korea is also interested in coming back as a foreign exchange student. A Corsica boy would like to come here but he wants to come on a degree program. 5. Miss Berlett and Mr. Herbert are attending a meeting at the University of Maryland in Baltimore County. A general boycott of all colleges in Maryland is being considered. It was suggested that Towson endorse this in some way since we will not be in class during the time the boycott is scheduled. A motion was unanimously passed to see that SGA Exec. Committee approve this boycott. 6. Miss Rohde announced that Student Life will vote on April 18 on a policy on fraternities and sororities. 7. Mr. Cullison announced that there has been a committee formed by the Board of Trustees to look at TSC alone without looking at the other state colleges. 8. Mr. Herbert suggested a report by the SGA exec. committee on what the committee has done this year. 9. Miss Berlett announced that she would be willing to make reservations for the Exec. dinner. Mr. Barkley moved that sufficient funds be allocated to pay for the exec. dinner. The motion was seconded and passed unanimously. A reception for assistants was also unanimously passed. 10. Miss Rohde suggested inviting the SGA exec. committee from Morgan to Towson for an informal talk.
