' AFFIDAVIT I, MARGAKI T BOURKE-WHITE, having been duly sworn hereoy make the following statement of my own free will and without coercion i 1. I am a photographer and reporter and I reside at Point of Woods Hoad, Darien, Connecticut. I have been a professional photographer for years. After spending several months in Italy in 1944, I accompanied the invasion forces to Germany in the early spring of 1945 on an assignment from Life Magazine. During the course of my assign¬ ment in Germany I talked to, and photographed, innumerable Germans from Government officials, who held extremely prominent positions in the Third Reich, to ordinary citizens, ousinessmen, Party officials, housewives and laborers who had worked for generations in the Krupp steel factories. 2. Many of the pictures which I took, and many of my observations on conquered Germany are set forth in my book "Dear Fatherland, Rest Quietly", which was published by Simon and Schuster in 1946. 3. I hereby certify that the following photographs, which are set forth after page 134 of my book, "Dear Fatherland, Rest Quietly", were taken oy me during the months of and , 1945 in Essen; that I observed carefully the tAiildings, people and scenes represented; and that the photographs described below are true and accurate representations thereof* (a) Alfried Krupp, head of the Krupp empire, standing before a portrait of Alfred Krupp, his great-grandfather. (b) Two Essen steel workers with caption, "Five generations of Krupps had made them docile and obedient." (c) Alfried Krupp with caption stating, "Herr Krupp said the only inconvenience suffered by slave laborers in his plants had been when their barracks were bombed and burned. He expected to go right ahead with civilian production."
