CAGERS ARE BUSY THE NEXT TWO WEEKS
Both the Tigers' men's and women's basketball teams will be very active these next
two weeks with the men going after Coach Vince Angotti's 200th career win and the ladies
chasing an EAIAW Tournament berth.
After facing George Washington University on Monday night, Angotti's squad will
return to the Towson Center for three straight home games to close out their first Divi¬
sion I season. We host rival University of Baltimore on Wednesday, February 13 at 8:00
and face Delaware State on Saturday, February 16 at 8:00. Next Wednesday, February 20,
the Tigers close out their home schedule with a contest against Loyola College at 8:00.
In addition to the action on the basketball court, there will be plenty of attrac¬
tions at the three home games. On Wednesday against UB, we* will have two preliminary
games as part of WCBM Night. At 5:15, Towson Catholic High School will face Flint Hill
Prep of Virginia, one of the top teams in Northern Virginia. At 7:00, the WCBM "Metro
Mediocres" basketball team will go against a team from Burger King. WCBM will present its
special Valentine's Day show at half time of the UB-Towson game.
On Saturday, February 16, it will be TSU Student-Athlete Night as well as Youth Night
as part of a big men' s-women' s doubleheader. Towson State student-athletes will be
honored and sit together to cheer the two teams on to victory while youth groups from the
Towson area will also be on hand. At half time of the men's game against Delaware State,
there will be a demonstration by the Gerstung Modern Dance Group.
At half time of the Loyola-Towson game on February 20, some fan in attendance will
be chosen as the winner of the Ford Pinto donated by Burger King. All season long, Tiger
basketball fans have been filling out entry blanks in anticipation of February 20 when
some fan will drive the car home. Remember that you must be in attendance to win the car.
ANGOTTI'S CAGERS HAVE WIN STREAK SNAPPED
With a 95-71 defeat at the hands of Cleveland State in Ohio, the Tigers had their
longest win streak of the year snapped at four. However, the Tigers have made quite an
impression on many teams around the east with their first-year showing in Division I.
Their total of eight wins is already among the best marks posted by Division I teams in
their first season at that level. With five games left, the total could climb higher.
Despite their status as a very young team, the Tigers have been at their best in
close games this season. In games decided by five points or less, Towson has won five of
six, including its last five in a row. After losing to American in the season opener, the
Tigers have beaten North Carol ina-Wil mi ngton by two, Maine by three, Richmond by five,
Fairfield by two, and Mount St. Mary's by one.
Freshman guard Donald Leslie is only averaging ten points ‘per game, but "the Iceman"
has made them count. Against UNC-Wil mi ngton, Leslie hit three free throws in the last 11
seconds of a 64-62 win. At Fairfield, he connected on a pair of free throws with 11
seconds to go for the Tigers' margin of victory. With six seconds remaining, he canned a
14-foot jump shot to beat Mount St. Mary's last Thursday night.
6-6 junior center Joe Miller is currently third in the ECAC Southern Division with an
average of 9.2 rebounds per game. With an 8-13 record, Towson is tied for eighth in the
division with Catholic University.
