That was the ratio of students to faculty and staff at yester-day's Presidential Search Committee Open Forum in the Potomac Lounge of the University Union, disappoint-ing some committee members who had hoped for more feed-back from Towson's student body. Dr. Jack Fru chtm an, University Senate chair and a member of the search commit-tee, was disappointed that only one student came to the forum to voice his opinion, despite interest in his political science classes in the search for University President Dr. Hoke L. Smith's successor in June. ""My students talk to me about the search,"" said Fruchtman, who expected at least five students at the forum. ""But the meetings are hard to come to with classes and athlet-ics going on."" Wayman Scott, the only stu-dent in attendance, said it is necessary for the University to have a diverse student body as well as faculty. ""I would like to lay a charge on you today to find a president that's willing to make Towson University a more diverse com-munity,"" said Scott, a University System of Maryland student council representative. Reisinger The Towerlight America East, the conference for 19 of Towson's sports pro-grams, decided against expan-sion in a vote by the presidents of its 10 member institutions Tuesday in Boston. The expansion � which need-ed eight yes votes to pass � would have extended invita-tions to the six remaining Colonial Athletic Association schools to join America East, but didn't have the support of some of the conference's northern schools. Towson officials were hopeful it would pass. ""We were very much in favor of it,"" Athletics Director Dr. Wayne Edwards said. ""We wanted it to happen, but we didn't get the votes we needed. I think it would have been in the best interest of the conference and in Towson's best interest, but obviously not everyone agreed."" Edwards said he knew going into Tuesday's meeting in Boston that the vote on adding the six CAA teams � Old Dominion, James Madison, William & Mary, George Mason, Virginia Comm�nwealth and North Carolina-Wilmington � could go either way.
