Senate takes stands on recent by Brenda Gilhooly At Tuesday's Senate meeting, Senate took stands on the six demands presented by the SDS to President James L. Fisher two weeks ago. Senator George Mattingly sug-gested that the Senate deal with each of the demands separately. It was moved and seconded that military recruiters be banned from campus. SDS member, John Young said that the rights of the Vietnamese are being destroyed by bombs, and added that the military is one of the more racist institutions. Senator Craig McGraw then stated that in various polls, students have voted in favor of retaining recruiters on campus. An amendment was added stating that an alternate booth be set up at the recruiting office to show the opposing point of view. In response to this amendment, SDS member Dave Ghees, said that it does not pertain to the demands. He accused the Senate of not facing up to the issue and stated, ""You're either for it or against it - there's no middle ground."" The Senate then agreed that civil authorities coming onto campus should be unarmed unless there is evidence that there are firearms at the site of the disturbances, and arms will be needed for self-defense. Concerning racist texts, Senate will request that the administration appoint a committee to overview all allegedly racist texts. SGA President, Jesse Harris, said that the Black Task Force would bring the racist texts tolight. It was the consensus that Senate should stand on its own feet, and enact its own investigative committee. The Senate took a stand against sexist and racist firings and hirings. Currently, an affirmative action plan is being organized to investigate these matters. It was also decided that the administration should install a sickle-cell anemia testing center and a gynocological clinic on campus. A special order of business was called to discuss a bill presented by Valerie Attenborough and John Kipper, stating that the Senate go on record as standing 100 percent behind Robert Leatherwood. The stand states that Leatherwood is innocent until proven guilty. Harris discusses remaining term SGA President Jesse Harris has decided to remain in office, although he has not fulfilled all the promises he made during his campaign. Harris campaigned on the promise that if he had not achieved all of his goals by December 10, he would resign. Harris told Towerlight that while he had not accomplished all of his goals, some good things have come from his administration. In an open letter to TSC students, Harris said: ""This past semester has been characterized by an attempt to provide the SGA with a sound philosophy and sense of direction, while making it more responsible and responsive to the students. ""Five major publications have been undertaken this semester. The SGA assumed complete control of the Gold 8z White, the demands requested that the rest of the academic community act with the same consideration. The motion passed unanimously. In his officer's report, Jesse Harris stated that no word has yet been received from the insurance company concerning damages incurred at a recent BSU concert. Two senators were elected to fill the vacancies created by the resignations of Sonny Gac and Bill Dean. Pat Cunningham, a member of the Towson Peace (Continued to Page 5) ngs produced has been released on $3,000 bond. A pHiminary hearing hes been waived. Evidence will be presented to the grand jury in an attempt to gain an indictment. There is no Board policy or state regulation regarding the administration of these funds. The maLagement relationship of the col'ege admilistration and SGA regarding student funds is cumntly an inherited one, dating back more than a decade. More than $15,000 in undeposited money from ticket sales of various concerts is alleged to be missing, according to state auditors. The investigation is expected to be completed by December 15, with the possibility that more warrants will be issued in connection with the missing funds. The audit report will be made available to the public within the next three to four weeks. official student handbook, produced over the summer and distributed in September. About the same time, Social Calendars, listing campus activities, were made available. ""The Who's Who of Student leaders, a directory of all those students holding positions in the student government, was initiated to provide for greater efficiency in communication. The Course Guide, an evaluation by faculty and students of multi-sectional, introductory courses, was originated to aid freshmen and sophomore students in selecting their courses. ""Finally, in a few days a Student Directory will be distributed to students on campus."" ""Through our efforts to be alert and sensitive to problems or interests involving specific groups of students, three programs have been developed. ""The foreign student program has been organized to begin to generate cross cultural experiences for the college community. The blind and handicapped student program has furnished a reader referral service for blind students along with providing a listening post for their special problems. ""Finally, in fulfilling a special interest need, the SGA has installed four bike racks and purchased two more for students use. ""Of benefit to all students has been the SGA Book Exchange, which provided an open market place for the buying and selling of used textbooks. '""Three positive gains were made by the SGA in dealings with the administration. First, school was closed for day students on election day. Next, the names of faculty members have been listed in the schedule booklet instead of staff. And finally, the pay or appeal time for parking tickets had been increased from 10 to 30 days. ""As most of you know, special emphasis has been placed on internal financial policies. Early in the semester the SGA Task Force was formed to initiate economies and realign organizational priorites.
