ч RESOLUTION 2020-2021 #23 IN THE STUDENT SENATE OF TOWSON UNIVERSITY, NOVEMBER 9TH, 2021, A RESOLUTION CONCERNING THE OPTION OF HAVING TAKE-OUT IN DINING HALLS ON CAMPUS. INTRODUCED ON: November 9th, 2021 INTRODUCED BY: Senator Hayes (on behalf of Director Yigle) COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION: Favorable with Amendments SENATE ACTION: ENACT UPON APPROVAL. Jordan M. DeVeaux, President - Student Government Association WHEREAS, food insecurity is a major problem that many Towson University students face. With the high cost of the meal plans, many students are left with unhealthy food options and/ or missing meals. WHEREAS, the dining halls tend to offer healthy food options that the other take-out restaurants on campus do not. By allowing students to take out food, it encourages healthy eating for students and reduces students skipping meals due to dietary restriction. WHEREAS, Towson University prides itself on reducing food waste annually. By not allowing students to take food out of the dining hall, it increases food waste from meals unfinished. WHEREAS, students should be able to fully utilize the money that they spent on their meal plan. Many students have busy schedules and do not have the ability' to sit down and eat in the dining halls all of the time. Allowing students to take food out of the dining halls would ensure that students are eating daily. WHEREAS, some students may still not feel comfortable eating in dining halls because of Covid. Take-out would allow them to have dining hall food options to take back to their rooms to eat to reduce anxiety and make them feel more comfortable. WHEREAS, at Stevenson University they allow their students to take-out food from their dining hall. In this process the students sign up for the to-go program during the dining hours. The cashier will give them a to-go food container and beverage container. Students are able to fill the containers with the food and beverages of their liking as long as the container can easily close. Students are able to return their to-go containers to the cashier at the dining hall for a clean set.
