Ehrlich, Jr. (R-2nd., MD) is participating in the long-awaited hearings into the activities of federal law enforcement organizations involved in the 1993 raid on the Branch Davidian compound in Waco, Texas. The hearings, which began today, are jointly held by the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime and the House Government Reform and Oversight Subcommitee on National Security, International Affairs, and Criminal Justice. Congressman Ehrlich is vice chairman of the National Security subcommittee. Attorney General Janet Reno will appear before the committee, as well as representatives of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (BATF) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). During the hearings, Congressman Ehrlich will personally question witnesses about the investigation conducted prior to the raid, the warrants issued, and the negotiations which took place between law enforcement officers and the Branch Davidians. “Many unanswered questions remain about the tragedy at Waco,” Congressman Ehrlich stated. “I look forward to participating in these hearings. The American people have the right to know the truth. Trust must be restored in legitimate law enforcement authorities.”
