Box 1234 Santa Monica, California 90406 Dear Mr. Schwarzenegger: I am once again contacting you to solicit your support for a bill in Congress which will positively impact an organization of great personal importance to you — the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports. As you probably are aware, federal funding for the President’s Council ($1 million in fiscal year 1997) is currently being phased out as part of the Republican plan to balance the budget by 2002. My bill, the National Foundation on Physical Fitness and Sports (H. R. 756), will preserve the President’s Council by creating a charitable, nonprofit organization which will serve as an alternate funding source. Additionally, the bill enables the Council to independently raise the funds necessary to meet its $1 million annual budget. Currently H. R. 756 has more than 20 Republican and Democratic cosponsors, including House Budget Committee Chairman John Kasich. H. R. 756 has been endorsed by the current co-chairs of the Council, former U. S. Congressman and Olympian medalist Tom McMillen and gold medalist Florence Griffith Joyner. It has also received the strong backing of the U. S. Olympic Committee; the Sporting Goods Manufacturing Association; the Women’s Sports Foundation; and the International Health, Racquet, and Sports Club Association. As chairman of the Council during the Bush Administration, you worked tirelessly to broaden public awareness of health and fitness issues. The leadership you brought to this issue impressed millions of Americans, especially youngsters. I am therefore requesting that you consider endorsing H.
