Towson State Ur1i\/ersity MEMORANDUM to: Irv Goldberg From: Annette Chappell Flower Subject: Mainstreaming Women's Studies As you know, Vice President Plante announced at the first University Senate meeting of this academic year that one of her highest priorities is the project to mainstream Women's Studies. She has particularly asked that the first thrust of this effort be within the College of Liberal Arts. Elaine Hedges and Sara Coulter, who are coordinating the project, have been working with the departments of History and English to begin the first phase of mainstreaming in those departments. I hope that the department of Sociology will be able to accommodate Elaine and Sara at a department meeting sometime early this semester to discuss the project and to explore ways in which Sociology might also be involved. Further initiatives, both within the College of Liberal Arts and in other colleges at the university, are planned for next year and beyond. I think Vice President Plante's strongly stated commitment (and President Smith's -- he has been working directly with Sara and Elaine on the proposals for external grant funding) demonstrate that mainstreaming is an administrative priority for this and future years.
