The Enrichment Committee thanks you for your enthusiastic support of our programs during the month of January. We are hoping that all of you will get into the habit of coming to the programs and come often. We want to tell you a little about our February programs: February 5 - Charlie Duff is an old friend at Blakehurst. For the past nineteen years he has been president of Jubilee Baltimore, a non-profit developer and neighborhood revitalization organization. He has recently published a new book, The North Atlantic Cities, which explores the great family of the world’s rowhouse cities - Amsterdam, London, Dublin and, of course, Baltimore. February 11 - Rena Yudkowsky, visiting the United States from Israel, is a professional memory coach and geriatric social worker with more than twenty years of experience. She will be speaking on focus and concentration, offering strategies for memory enhancement and improving your quality of life. February 13 - Dr. Armin Mruck is a new resident at Blakehurst and will speak about his recollections as a youth in Germany during World War II and his early years in America afterwards. His research has focused on the resistance to Hitler as well as Polish-German relations. He was a Professor of History at Towson University for twenty years. February 27 - The Maryland Opera Company’s legacy spans more than two centuries. Baltimore’s Rosa Ponselle was the first artistic director of the Baltimore Civic Opera Company. In 2009, spiraling costs and economic conditions forced it to disband. Its successor, Lyric Opera Baltimore kept opera alive until 2017 when performances voluntarily ended because of financial difficulties. MD Opera was then formed to bring the splendor of live opera to diverse and underserved audiences throughout the state. Recent performances have been at the Cambridge School on North Charles Street and The Pendry Hotel in Fells Point. Hopefully we will show them our Blakehurst support. James Harp will be here with two of his singers for our program, “Opera and Broadway Highlights.”
