I am satisfied that the search committee has applied all standards of fair practice in selecting an interview pool of 88 applicants, 50 met minimum qualifications. A fairly high percentage, 68 returned data cards. Of these 67 were female, one male. There were 38 white applicants, 7 African-Americans, 18 Asians, 4 Hispanics, and 1 American Indian. The committee asks to interview five candidates, as two are within driving distance and would incur few expenses. From the vita, exact racial mix cannot be determined in all cases, yet it seems likely that the pool has excellent ethnic and racial diversity, as indicated: Gul Ozyegin (Turkish) Patricia Washington (African-American) Priti Ramamurthy (Asian) Esther Wangari (African) Erika Polokoff (white) I fully endorse the interview pool and recommend that you approve it.
