- Description
- Photograph of people in attendence at the dedication of Linthicum and Burdick Hall in 1968. The following people have been identified (left-right): Louis Goldstein (State Comptroller), Earle T. Hawkins (President of Towson State College), and Joseph Falco (Dean). Dr. Earle T. Hawkins served as president of the college from 1947 until 1969. Dr. Hawkins instituted summer and evening class programs and added more concentrations to the arts and sciences departments to meet the demands of the college's growth. In 1968, Towson dedicated the building, Linthicum Hall in honor of J. Charles Linthicum, a member of the House of Representatives from 1911-1932 and a 1886 graduate of the Maryland State Normal School. When it was built, it was the largest classroom building on campus and also housed the book store. On November 2, 1968, Burdick Hall was dedicated in honor of Dr. William H. Burdick, one of the founders of the American Academy of Physical Education, and a faculty member of Towson's Physical Education department from 1919-1925.
