August 30, 1983 SGA Senate meeting minutes

MINUTES AUGUST 30, 1983 Meeting was called to order at 4:00. Sen. O'Shea moved to excuse Sen. Otradovec-sec. She was excused. Sen. Richers was late for the meeting. Minutes from precious session were suspended from agenda. President Barnhart announced that Drew Denicoff, Tom Hartsock, Renee Johnson and William Wallace are no longer senators. An ad was put in the Sept. 12th edition of Towerlight about University Affairs Committee appointments. Staff replacements: The new Dean for Development is Marion Hoffman. Lilliam Anthony replaced Dean Knox. Linda Evans replaced Donna Serdehely. President Barnhart stressed that the Senate office door must stay closed. Offices are being rekeyed. Film Series for the fall was also discussed. Treasurer Ray discussed the Homecoming memo that went out and the Triad surveys. Director of P.R. discussed the Events Calendar and the First Day of Classes Dance on Sept. 1st. Stressed that help for clean-up and set-up is needed. No Constitutions introduced. Senate Bill 1983 - 84 #3: To appropriate $15,600. for the SGA 1983 - 84 Speaker Series was introduced. Committee Reports: Rule D2 suspended-sec. Appropriations Sen. Shabow moved to talk about Speaker Series budget-sec. Sen. Shabow moved to amend series-sec. Sen Shabow moved to delete Peter Bensinger and Rickard Ashley from the series-sec. Vote was 4-4-1; failed. Sen. O'Shea moved to leave Speaker Series as is-sec. Sen Schiffer moved to previous question-sec. Vote was 5-3-1; failed. Sen. Dubbert moved to accept bill-sec. Vote was 6-3-0. Sen. O'Shea moved for a 5 minute recess at 5:20-sec. Sen. Shabow moved to reject bill-sec. Vote was 7-1-1; motion carried. Sen. DiPaula moved for a 10-minute recess at 6:00-sec. Sen. O'Shea excused Sen. Richards-sec. He was excused. Sen. DiPaula moved to reconsider-sec. Vote was unanimous. Sen. DiPaula moved to appropriate $13,100.00 for the fall Speaker Series deleting Peter Bensinger and Richard Ashley. Senate debated. Sen. Shabow moved to previous question-sec. Vote was 7-1-0; motion carried. Announcements President Barnhart stresses that help is needed for First Day of Classes Dance and senators should take time to go through Triad surveys for the groups they represent. Treasurer Ray discussed Mandatory Meeting in memo. Sen. DiPaula moved to accept Bill 1983 - 84 #3 deleting Peter Bensinger and Richard Ashley-sec. Bill 1983 - 84 #3 passed with the deletion of Peter Bensinger and Richard Ashley subtracting $2,500 from original figure of $15,600 making the bottom line figure $13,100. Sen. DiPaula moved to adjourn-sec. Adjourned at 6:40.
